The Australian Surf Music and Garage Rock Quartet

Skegss is an Australian band that formed in 2014 in Byron Bay. The band initially started as a quartet, consisting of Toby Cregan, Noa Deane, Jonny Lani, and Ben Reed. Cregan played the bass guitar, Deane played the guitar. Lani played the drums, and Reed was the lead vocalist and guitarist.

The Early Days of Skegss

After reuniting in 2014, Lani and Reed started playing gigs around Byron Bay for small amounts of money and a few drinks. Their energetic live act quickly gained a reputation, leading to the addition of Cregan and Deane to the band. The quartet then developed a distinctive sound, blending surf, garage, and punk rock.

Skegss’ Rise to Fame

Skegss’ popularity grew quickly, and they started to tour extensively, playing at festivals and venues all over Australia. In 2015, the band released their debut EP “50 Push Ups for a Dollar” and followed it up with their first full-length album “My Own Mess” in 2018.
