Ted Cruz is an American politician and lawyer who has been serving as the senior United States senator from Texas since 2013. Cruz is a member of the Republican Party and was a candidate for the party’s nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election.

Early Life and Education:

Ted Cruz was born in Calgary, Canada, in 1970 to an American mother and a Cuban father. Cruz grew up in Houston, Texas, and attended Princeton University, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy. He then went on to attend Harvard Law School, where he was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Political Career:

Cruz began his political career as a clerk for Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court. He later served as the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, and as Solicitor General of Texas. In 2012, Cruz won the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat from Texas and went on to win the general election.

As a senator, Cruz has been famous for his conservative stance on various issues, including gun rights, immigration, and healthcare. He has been a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and has advocated for its repeal.


Ted Cruz has been involved in several controversies throughout his political career. In 2013, he was accused of leading a government shutdown in an attempt to defund Obamacare. Cruz has also faced criticism for his stance on immigration, including his support for building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

In 2021, Cruz faced significant backlash after he traveled to Cancun, Mexico, during a winter storm that caused widespread power outages in Texas. Cruz later admitted that the trip was a mistake and returned to Texas to help with relief efforts.


Ted Cruz is a well-known figure in American politics, and his conservative views have made him a popular figure among Republicans. Despite facing various controversies throughout his career, Cruz remains an influential figure in the party and continues to be an important voice in national politics.
